Your first visit, without the uncertainty

A private first visit—with no surprises

You do not need to know the right words, arrive perfectly prepared or agree to anything before you are ready. Your first visit begins with a conversation about what you are feeling, what matters to you and how care can fit comfortably into your life.

Before Melissa arrives

A few simple things help us focus on you

There is no special grooming, workout or test you need to complete. Choose a private space, wear something comfortable and bring the questions you have been carrying—Melissa brings the treatment table and guides the rest.

  • Complete the electronic intake and consent forms in Jane before the visit.
  • Choose a private room with space for a portable treatment table or exercise mat.
  • Wear clothing that allows you to breathe, squat, bend and move comfortably.
  • Keep your medication list, relevant surgery dates and provider information available.
  • Write down the symptoms or activities you most want to improve.
  • You do not need to shave, change normal hygiene routines or arrive with a full bladder unless specifically instructed.

No surprises

We start with a conversation—not an exam

  1. 1

    Your story and goals

We begin with a private conversation about symptoms, medical history, daily routines and what would make care feel successful to you.

  2. 2

    Movement assessment

Melissa may evaluate breathing, posture, abdominal pressure, hip and spine movement, strength or a task that reproduces symptoms.

  3. 3

    Pelvic floor options

Depending on your symptoms, an external or internal muscle assessment may be discussed. Melissa explains the purpose first. You decide whether to proceed and can stop at any time.

  4. 4

    Initial treatment

Most evaluations include useful treatment or practice—such as breathing, relaxation, strengthening, movement changes, scar mobility or bladder and bowel strategies.

  5. 5

    A focused home plan

You receive a manageable plan tied to your goals. The aim is not a long generic exercise list; it is a clear next step that can fit into real life.

BCBS PPO

The Healthy Pelvis is in-network with BCBS PPO. Benefits are verified when possible, but the plan—not the provider—makes the final coverage decision.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to pelvic floor physical therapy?

Comfortable clothing that lets you breathe and move is best. Athletic wear, soft pants or shorts usually work well. If a more specific examination is discussed, you will have privacy and receive instructions first.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Illinois allows direct access to physical therapy in many circumstances, but some insurance plans or clinical situations may require a referral or coordination with another provider. The practice can tell you what information is needed for your situation.

Can I still be seen if I am menstruating?

Usually, yes. Menstruation does not automatically prevent a pelvic floor visit. Any internal assessment remains optional and can be modified or postponed based on your comfort.

Can my partner or support person attend?

Often, yes, when you want them present and the home environment allows it. Let the practice know ahead of time if you have a specific request.

Will I receive exercises at the first visit?

Most patients leave with at least one practical strategy, but the exact plan depends on the assessment. Relaxation, breathing, bladder or bowel habits and movement changes can be just as important as strengthening.

What if I am not sure which service to choose?

Use the Pelvic Floor Symptom Finder or schedule a free 15-minute consultation. You do not need to diagnose yourself before reaching out.

Take the next step

Not sure which type of pelvic floor care fits?

A free 15-minute phone consultation is a simple, private way to ask questions and decide whether an evaluation makes sense.
